- Trump is stopping by Newport News, Virginia today for another campaign rally as the pandemic continues to kill hundreds of Americans every day. His administration’s botched handling of the pandemic — and its lies to the American people about the danger it posed — have led to the deaths of more than 200,000 Americans.
- This event will be his seventh non-socially distanced rally in the past week, demonstrating how the president has simultaneously minimized the COVID-19 pandemic and put Americans at risk despite having known the dangers of the virus since February.
- This week, the United States passed the grim milestone of more than 200,000 deaths from COVID-19 — more than the entire population of Newport News. Trump’s callous disregard for science and basic coronavirus containment protocol puts all Virginians at risk. He continues to attack his own administration’s pandemic safety guidelines, such as wearing masks, as his supporters intimidated Virginians attempting to vote early this past weekend.

- Trump issued a sham executive order last night in an attempt to trick Americans into thinking he actually cares about protecting people with pre-existing conditions. Meanwhile, he is expected to announce a Supreme Court nominee tomorrow who is on board with repealing the Affordable Care Act — a decision that would strip health care away from millions of people.
- As CAP Action’s Maura Calsyn noted, “an executive order is no substitute for the ACA’s protections,” which she says are especially critical for people of color, women, and people with disabilities. According to experts, Republican plans to cover people with preexisting conditions have repeatedly fallen far short of current law and could cause people with health needs to be denied coverage or charged more for their health care.
