“I am afraid every day for the life of my daughter.”
The Affordable Care Act gave parents of children with preexisting conditions some desperately needed peace of mind. For the first time, insurance companies couldn’t discriminate against their kids, whose medical costs are incredibly high simply because of the conditions they were born with.
Now, children born with preexisting conditions risk losing access to affordable health coverage because of the latest Trump-backed lawsuit by 18 conservative attorneys general to repeal the Affordable Care Act. Specifically, one in four children in the U.S. would be impacted by eliminating protections this lawsuit will strip away. If the law is repealed, insurance companies will also be able to reinstate lifetime caps on coverage, which would be devastating for many Americans with preexisting conditions, especially children.
In a powerful new video, Tasha and Samantha—Virginians who each have children who were born with serious preexisting conditions—share what’s at stake for millions of families across the country.
