Building the Bench: Lieutenant Governors and Progressive Power

Center for American Progress Action Fund
4:00 - 5:00 PM EDT

Following the election of President Donald Trump, governors and lieutenant governors have stepped up to protect our democracy and advance progressive policies that directly affect people’s lives. The 2018 midterm elections were historic on several fronts, but one development that generated less attention is the fact that, nationwide, Democrats picked up nine new lieutenant governor seats. The new lieutenant governors come from nearly every corner of the country and represent a historically high level of diversity, with seven women, three African Americans, two Hispanic Americans, one Native American, and the first openly gay lieutenant governor in this country’s history.

Please join the Center for American Progress Action Fund for a conversation with Lt. Govs. Bethany Hall-Long (D-DE), Kathleen C. Hochul (D-NY), Howie Morales (D-NM), and Garlin Gilchrist (D-MI) — four of the country’s preeminent lieutenant governors. They will discuss how their states are working to protect the environment and access to health care; promote economic development; and ensure a more responsive and representative government that works for the people, not special interests.

Distinguished guests:
Lt. Gov. Bethany Hall-Long (D-DE)
Lt. Gov. Kathleen C. Hochul (D-NY)
Lt. Gov. Howie Morales (D-NM)
Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist (D-MI)
