Strategies to Cut Poverty and Expand Economic Growth

9:30 - 11:30 AM EDT

On October 26th, the Half in Ten campaign will release its inaugural report to start the clock on tracking the nation’s progress toward cutting poverty in half over the next decade. Over the past 12 months, the campaign held several roundtable discussions with policymakers, researchers, and advocates to identify effective indicators that will demonstrate how the nation is doing in terms of creating good jobs, strengthening families and creating a path to economic security. As a result of this year long process, the campaign has developed a set of indicators that it will use over the next ten years to measure the nation’s progress toward cutting poverty and expanding opportunities. The report includes four essays, each followed by a corresponding set of indicators, which will also be available at the state level. The essays and indicators focus on:

• Overall Poverty in the United States;
• More Good Jobs;
• Strengthening Families and Communities; and
• Family Economic Security

The report also outlines a set of policy priorities that policymakers should enact in the near term to get us on the correct path to start reducing poverty and expanding opportunity for all.
