Democracy, and all that it entails, has been a cornerstone of what it means to be an American for centuries. Since the earliest days of this country, people have fought to ensure that this ideal is accessible to everyone in the United States, not just the privileged few. In recent years, however, we have seen renewed attacks on voting rights and unprecedented efforts to sabotage elections. We have the policy tools at our disposal to secure U.S. democracy and build the kind of multiracial democracy embedded in the initial promise of this country, but Congress must act now and pass legislation sitting in the Senate. The Center for American Progress Action Fund has held a series of events highlighting what is at stake and the need for immediate congressional action.
