Please join the Center for American Progress Action Fund and the National Security Leadership Alliance for a speech by Sen. Ben Cardin (D-MD), ranking Democrat on the U.S. Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, about U.S. relations with Russia, with a particular focus on legislation that he and his colleagues have introduced to impose additional sanctions on Russia for their destabilizing activities in the United States and worldwide. The senator, who is an outspoken advocate for human rights, has also sponsored other legislation on U.S.-Russian relations, including a bill that would establish a 9/11-like commission to examine Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election. In addition, Sen. Cardin is the lead author of the Sergei Magnitsky Human Rights Accountability Act, a law that imposes sanctions on Russian individuals and entities responsible for the death of Russian lawyer Sergei Magnitsky. After his remarks, Cardin will take questions from the audience.
