Serving America’s Veterans

6:00 - 7:30 PM EDT

They fought for their country, enduring hardship and separation from loved ones, perhaps forfeiting jobs or education. All too often, they came home with physical and/or psychological wounds that made it difficult to reintegrate into their former lives. What does America owe its veterans and how do we ensure that we can pay?

The Center for American Progress Action Fund will host Congressman Bob Filner (D-CA), chairman of the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee, in a discussion about these and other topics related to the current state of veterans’ affairs.

The event will also serve as the book launch of Serving America’s Veterans (Praeger Security International, 2009). In the book, former Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower, Reserve Affairs, Installations, and Logistics Lawrence J. Korb and his team of experts survey and analyze the conditions, challenges, policies, and politics affecting veterans affairs in the United States. Most critically, they provide practical prescriptions and policy recommendations to address veterans’ many, pressing needs.

Copies of the book will be on sale at the event.
