Summary

American Progress is seeking a collaborative and empathetic Senior Human Resources Director who is a trusted leader and adviser to join the Human Resources department and play a vital role in fostering positive employee relations and effective training and development and ensuring compliance with employment laws. The Senior Director will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, including providing support to people managers and their employees, conducting investigations, developing training programs, and leading team members. Responsibilities:

  • Provide expert consulting and support on talent acquisition, onboarding, performance management, compensation and benefits, training and development, and employee relations.
  • Coach and mentor people managers on effective management practices.
  • Lead and manage department projects and/or members, providing coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback.
  • Manage employee relations, including resolving conflict, addressing employee concerns, and administering disciplinary actions.
  • Analyze human resources (HR) data and trends to identify areas for improvement and inform strategic decision-making.
  • Champion a culture of inclusion, diversity, equity, and belonging.
  • Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience in an HR management or leadership role required.
  • Proven track record of success in building and leading high-performing HR teams.
  • Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal and influencing skills.
  • Deep understanding of HR laws and regulations.
  • Proficiency in HR software and data analysis tools.
  • Passion for building a positive and inclusive work environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in human resources management, business administration, or a related field is highly preferred.
  • HR certification is highly preferred.
