The Center for American Progress Action Fund’s previous policy on donor transparency was to publish an honor roll listing the previous year’s donors for CAP Action.
However, the Trump administration is actively targeting leaders and institutions that have challenged the president’s actions. Therefore, CAP Action is changing its policies during the course of this administration and this administration alone. Except for corporate and foreign donors, we will assume that donors prefer to be anonymous unless they specify otherwise. To accompany this, we will also publish a top-line summary of the percentage breakdown of each giving source.

We believe this is a prudent step to protect our institution. It should be noted that this shift does not signal a change in CAP Action’s posture about donor influence: Our work will remain independent from donor interests. Moreover, these measures are temporary steps through this administration. In a future administration that supports the rule of law, we would return to a more transparent posture.
