ADVISORY: Rep. Xavier Becerra on the Latino Vote in 2012 and Beyond

Washington, D.C. — On Thursday, July 19, the Center for American Progress Action Fund will host Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-CA) for a discussion on the power and potential of Latino voters—the fastest-growing segment of the U.S. electorate—in the upcoming election and beyond. This event will contextualize the recent demographic changes that have put Latinos in an ever more important electoral position, and talk about their voting preferences as well as the challenges to increasing voter registration and turnout.

Latinos already comprise more than 10 percent of the population in close to a dozen states. In a number of the most closely watched battleground states—including Florida, Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, and Nevada—Latino voters have the power to sway the upcoming presidential election as well as impact House and Senate races.
