President Obama signed into law yesterday a historic health care reform measure that will expand affordable coverage to millions, end abusive insurance company practices, and bring down the deficit. This week, the Senate is working to finish the job by passing the same package of improvements to this historic bill that was passed by the House Sunday night.
Unfortunately, Republicans are attempting to stall this process with the same obstructionist tactics they have used since the beginning of the health care reform debate. Their latest political tactic is offering amendments that progressive lawmakers would be inclined to support, but that in this context amount to nothing more than attempts to stop this last step in the process of reforming our health care system. Senators should see these political stunts for what they are and vote ‘no’ on all amendments – because in doing so, they will be voting ‘yes’ to enacting the best health care reform measure possible.
