Washington, D.C. — The past four years have seen countless abuses of power by the executive branch and laid bare gaps in the current system that can be exploited to put the president’s personal, political interest above the national interest. Rules that rely on a law-abiding president have been ignored, norms have been shattered, and the levers of government have been twisted for political gain.
After Watergate, Congress undertook a bold agenda to make far-reaching reforms to our political system, many of which are still in place today. This moment demands a similarly bold response from Congress that will also stand the test of time.
Please join the Center for American Progress Action Fund for a conversation with House Committee Chairs Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-NY), Rep. Jerry Nadler (D-NY), and Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) to be followed by a panel discussion with five distinguished members of Congress—Rep. Madeleine Dean (D-PA), Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY), Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA), and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD)—on these vital issues and how we can all protect our democracy.
