EVENT ADVISORY: Pelosi to Discuss Anti-Corruption and Pro-Voter Solutions To Make the Government Work for the People

Washington, D.C. — Please join the Center for American Progress Action Fund on Monday, July 16 for an in-depth discussion with U.S. House Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and other key congresspersons who are leading the fight to restructure the rules of democracy in order to rebalance power for the people. They will discuss their observations about how the Trump administration’s culture of corruption distorts policymaking and how the problem can be addressed through congressional Democrats’ bold anti-corruption, pro-voter package, “A Better Deal for Our Democracy.”

Many Americans share the view that the federal government is run by and for wealthy and powerful special interests. This culture of corruption blocks progress on substantive issues that matter in people’s lives such as access to well-paying jobs, affordable health care, and clean air and water. Americans deserve fair representation, and in a properly functioning democratic government, elected representatives should serve the interests of the people—not just their wealthy donors.

Congressional Democrats are presenting strong, clear solutions to empower voters and to stop wealthy special interests from having an improper influence on the levers of government—so that elected representatives are responsive and accountable to the people.
