EVENT ADVISORY: Press Briefing With CAP Action CEO Patrick Gaspard on the Progressive Case for Combating Rising Crime

Washington, D.C. — On Tuesday, June 14, Center for American Progress Action Fund CEO Patrick Gaspard will host an on-the-record press briefing to discuss important new research contextualizing the recent increase in violent crime—including how the lack of focus on gun violence distorts the national dialogue on the issue; the efficacy of progressive criminal justice reforms; and national trends in crime, including comparisons based on partisan control. Gaspard will also walk through recent polling that CAP Action has conducted and discuss how Democrats can cement a stronger brand focused on security and go on the offensive against MAGA Republicans for their extreme policies that put communities at risk.

This briefing, which will include an opportunity for Q&A, is part of a wide-ranging effort by the Center for American Progress Action Fund to educate the public about the scope—and true drivers—of rising crime and debunk myths wrongly assailing criminal justice reforms for increases in crime. It comes as the nation continues to grapple with a wave of mass shootings and in advance of the summer season, which has historically been associated with an increase in crime.
