PRESS CALL ADVISORY: Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra and CAP Action Experts to Discuss the Impact of Immigration Reform on Medicare and Social Security

Washington, D.C. — As the country waits for the House of Representatives to take action on immigration reform, Democratic Caucus Chairman Xavier Becerra (D-CA) will be joined by CAP Action experts to discuss the positive impact that passage of reform will have on critical programs for our nation’s seniors.

While immigration reform garners strong support from American voters across the ideological spectrum, House Republican leaders continue to equivocate on bringing the issue to the floor for consideration. CAP’s new analysis, “How Will Immigration Reform Impact the Medicare Trust Fund?“, shines a spotlight on why delay is hurting the nation’s economy and the security of our nation’s seniors by exploring the fiscal impacts of reform on Medicare. As with an earlier CAP analysis of the effects of reform on Social Security, this report highlights how legalizing the undocumented will significantly strengthen the Medicare Trust Fund. Chairman Becerra, CAP Action Vice President for Immigration Policy Angela Maria Kelley, and the report’s co-author Patrick Oakford will discuss the positive impact of reform on these two key programs.
