Washington, D.C. — Tomorrow morning, Sen. Sherrod Brown will join University of California at Berkeley Economist Michael Reich and the Center for American Progress Action Fund’s Neera Tanden to unveil the findings of a new report demonstrating that the nation stands to reap significant savings in federal spending on public assistance programs by increasing the minimum wage. Commissioned by the Center for American Progress and authored by Michael Reich and Rachel Westland, the first-of-its-kind report puts a dollar figure on how much money the government stands to save in SNAP expenditures and provides expected state-by-state enrollment reductions if policymakers were to increase the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour.
