Washington, D.C. — The Center for American Progress Action Fund (CAP Action) today announced new senior staff members. Emily Tisch Sussman joins CAP Action as Director of Campaigns, and Tony Carrk will serve as Director of the Health Care War Room.
“We are excited to add two great talents, Emily Tisch Sussman and Tony Carrk, who bring great experience and energy, particularly as we continue battles over economic policy, health care, and other key issues such as voting rights,” said Tom Perriello, President and CEO of CAP Action. “CAP Action’s reporting and communications reach continues to expand in order to combat conservative misinformation and advance progressive policies such as middle-out economics, equality for all Americans, and efforts to combat climate change.”
As Director of Campaigns, Tisch Sussman will be working to expand the reach of CAP Action’s issue campaigns nationally and in the states. CAP Action is currently running a wide range of issue campaigns in areas such as middle-out economics, health care, women’s reproductive rights and economic equality, gun-violence prevention, clean energy and climate change, immigration reform, LGBT equality, and voting rights, among others. Tisch Sussman served as a Policy Fellow at Generation Progress and previously served as the executive director of Young Democrats of America and co-director of government affairs for Servicemembers Legal Defense Network.
Carrk will be rejoining CAP Action to lead the organization’s efforts to combat conservative misinformation about Obamacare and educate the public about the benefits of the law. Carrk returns to CAP Action after two years at the Democratic National Committee, or DNC, where he worked as director of rapid response research and was a member of the President Barack Obama’s debate-preparation team during the 2012 presidential election. He served as the research director at the DNC since November 2012.
Today’s staff changes build on several recent promotions and other changes at CAP Action. Lori Lodes is Senior Vice President for Campaigns and Strategy, Josh Dorner is Director of Communications and Advocacy, Noreen Nielsen is Director of the Energy War Room, and Emily Seldin serves as Programs Manager. ThinkProgress.org, a project of CAP Action, also recently unveiled a completely redesigned site, a new ThinkProgress Sports vertical, several staff promotions, and a significant expansion of the ClimateProgress blog.
