As President Donald Trump spends his 7th weekend as President at Mar-a-Lago, the Center for American Progress Action Fund has launched IsTrumpAtMarALago.org, a real-time tracker of time and taxpayer money the president expends at his South Florida estate. As Trump’s travel comes under increased pressure for potential ethical issues, security concerns, and even health violations, CAP Action will track the mounting costs associated with the logistical quagmire.
Using estimates from the U.S. Government Accountability Office, CAP Action will update the total cost to taxpayers each time Trump decamps to Florida. Beyond tracking the costs, CAP Action puts the taxpayer burden in context, providing comparable funding alternatives such as Pell Grants or aid to the homeless—programs that Trump wants to cut.
“It’s supremely hypocritical of Donald Trump to spend millions of government dollars at Mar-a-Lago while crusading to cut vital programs such as Meals on Wheels,” said CAP Action Press Secretary Morgan Finkelstein. “Our tracker will provide context and keep Trump accountable for his out-of-control spending at taxpayers’ expense.”
The site will be updated in real-time throughout Trump’s term. For more information or to speak to an expert, contact Morgan Finkelstein at [email protected].
