Washington, D.C. — On Tuesday, House Democratic leaders unveiled a new coronavirus relief bill known as the HEROES Act. The package from the House fills a vacuum of leadership left by the president, who has largely abandoned the fight to contain COVID-19 in favor of demanding states reopen against his own task force guidelines. President Donald Trump’s top infectious disease expert, Dr. Anthony Fauci, recently cautioned the U.S. Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee that the federal government does not have the coronavirus crisis “completely under control.” He has warned that President Trump’s push to reopen the country too quickly will lead to an all but certain resurgence of the virus.
Now, in a new video released by the Center for American Progress Action Fund, U.S. Marine Corps veteran Hunter Henderson of Phoenix speaks out against President Trump as a self-proclaimed “wartime president.” Both the president and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have left Americans to face the consequences of an extended economic depression at the height of a pandemic that has claimed the lives of nearly 80,000 Americans and cost more than 33 million jobs. As Henderson says in the video, the commander in chief’s values are far from what he learned serving the country.
“I don’t think President Trump reflects any of the values that I learned in the military,” says Henderson. “I don’t see any integrity in him. I don’t see honor. I don’t see courage. People are out there living in fear, and I wish those were the people that President Trump would look out for.”
