Washington, D.C. — Today, Vice President Kamala Harris said she supports the U.S. Senate getting rid of the filibuster to pass legislation that would protect abortion rights. In response, Stasha Rhodes, senior fellow at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, issued the following statement:
Americans are frustrated with the inability of our political system to address their problems, and a major piece of that dysfunction is the Senate filibuster that allows a loud few to stop a majority of senators from passing laws. It’s great to see a candidate for president speak about the importance of protecting abortion rights and be open to changing archaic customs to make that happen. Those outdated procedures need to be fully reformed so that Congress can finally be responsive to the needs of American voters.
