STATEMENT: CAPAF’s Marshall Fitz on Conservatives Alienating Hispanics and Creating More Dysfunction in the Senate

Washington, D.C. – Today, as Senate Republicans once again turned the confirmation of Adalberto Jose Jordan, a highly qualified, widely supported judicial nominee into a hostage situation, Marshall Fitz, Director of Immigration Policy at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, issued the following statement:

This obstructionism will exacerbate the Senate Republicans’ plummeting approval ratings and help cement the party’s anti-Latino, anti-immigrant brand among the fastest-growing segment of the electorate. Attempting to block Adalberto Jose Jordan’s confirmation, a Cuban-American nominee (the first to a federal court of appeals) from Florida strongly supported by Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL), was bad enough. Humiliating him by demanding additional delays on a final vote in his inevitable confirmation only serves to show the Republican Party’s profound disrespect toward this critical voting block.
