STATEMENT: If Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans Succeed in Passing a National Abortion Ban, Women Will Be Ripped of Their Right To Make Deeply Personal Decisions About Their Futures, Says CAP Action’s Maggie Jo Buchanan

Washington, D.C. — Today, new reporting affirms former President Donald Trump’s support for a national abortion ban, with very limited exceptions. In response to this news, Maggie Jo Buchanan, senior director and senior legal fellow of the Women’s Initiative at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, shared the following statement:

Donald Trump has proudly touted that he was the one to overturn Roe v. Wade with his handpicked MAGA extremists on the U.S. Supreme Court. His endorsement of a national abortion ban should shock no one, even as it flies in the face of the values of Americans and the message they’ve been sending to politicians from coast to coast.

Women and doctors across America are scared. Because of  abortion bans, we’ve seen women facing life-threatening medical situations be turned away from treatment. Women have been forced to carry pregnancies to term, suffering in agony while they watched their babies that never had a chance at life die shortly after birth. OB-GYNs are afraid to practice medicine in states that have abortion bans in place, further threatening the lives and well-being of women.

If Donald Trump and MAGA Republicans succeed in passing a national abortion ban, women will be ripped of their right to make deeply personal decisions about their futures. Americans must continue to speak out and act to protect their freedoms from radical politicians who are willing to put lives in danger to force their own social agenda on everyone.
