STATEMENT: MAGA Republican Extremism Has Broken the People’s House, Says CAP Action’s Patrick Gaspard

Washington, D.C. — Today, the U.S. House of Representatives voted to remove Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) as speaker. In response, Patrick Gaspard, CEO of the Center for American Progress Action Fund, released the following statement:

MAGA Republican extremism has broken the People’s House. Rather than call off MAGA extremists, former Speaker McCarthy and rank-and-file House Republicans have gotten into bed with them. Their marriage has repeatedly paralyzed the institution, damaged our democracy, pushed the economy to the brink, and put Americans’ rights and well-being in the crosshairs.

Democrats used their majority in the last Congress to deliver lower drug prices, fuel a clean energy manufacturing boom, and rebuild America’s infrastructure. House Republicans, however, are using their current majority to launch a baseless impeachment stunt and create more problems, not solve them. America’s middle class cannot afford this MAGA-manufactured crisis. MAGA Republicans are showing the American people that they are unable to govern.
