Washington, D.C. — Several reports released this week reveal that Sen. Mike Crapo (R-ID), the top Republican on the Senate Finance Committee, is unwilling to support a proposal to expand the child tax credit, even after Democrats made significant concessions to earn Senate Republicans’ support. In response, Emily Gee, senior vice president for Inclusive Growth at CAP Action, released the following statement:
For Senate Republicans like Mike Crapo, it’s clear that the only tax cuts they’re willing to support are those benefiting billionaires, multinational corporations, and wealthy tax cheats. Their decision to block a fully paid-for bipartisan tax cut that would help working families shows that they don’t care about the financial pressures facing America’s middle class and working families. This decision stands in stark contrast with President Biden and Democrats, who are laser-focused on making life more affordable, including by cracking down on corporate junk fees, reducing the cost of health care and prescription drugs, and fighting to protect Social Security and Medicare by making the wealthy pay their fair share.
