Washington, D.C. — Today, all but two Senate Republicans blocked commonsense legislation to codify protections for patients to obtain and use contraception as well as for health care providers who share information and dispense it. In response, Emily Gee, senior vice president of Inclusive Growth at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, shared the following statement:
MAGA Republicans have made it crystal clear that their takedown of Roe v. Wade was just the tip of the iceberg. Today’s vote is the latest sign that Senate Republicans are on a mission to control women’s autonomy to make decisions about their own bodies and futures. Make no mistake, the same lawmakers who confirmed Donald Trump’s handpicked Supreme Court justices will use any means necessary to ban abortion everywhere, limit fertility options, and jeopardize access to contraception.
Senate Republicans’ refusal to protect the right to contraception is a blatant attack on women’s autonomy and is a frightening harbinger of things to come if their party returns to power this November. This extremist agenda to control women is deeply unpopular and out of step with what Americans want. Just like they have before, Americans will continue to reject this extremist agenda and attacks on reproductive freedom.
