Statement: Trump’s Education Plan Recycles Failed Policies

Washington, D.C. – After Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump’s visit to a charter school in Cleveland, the Center for American Progress Action Fund’s Vice President of Education Policy, Catherine Brown, issued the following statement:

“Today Donald Trump released an education plan that recycles outdated and failed conservative policies that contradict existing research and diverts resources from low-income school districts. Although he omitted it in today’s speech, Trump has repeatedly called for the elimination of the Department of Education, which could cut resources for over 5 million students with disabilities, 9 million low-income students, 5 million English language learners, and Pell grants for over 8 million low-income college bound students. His plan to divert billions from public schools for vouchers would only cover a fraction of the cost for private school tuition and is yet another empty promise that would undermine our public education system, the foundation of our democracy.”
