You don’t have to look far to find a better jobs president than Trump
Despite Trump’s constant assertions that he’d be “the greatest jobs president that God ever created,” today’s jobs report was dismal.
In fact, you don’t have to look too far to find a better jobs president than Trump. Job growth under Trump is down nearly 12% from under President Obama.
Trump inherited a strong economy from Obama, and he’s putting that economy at serious risk with his erratic trade-wars-by-tweet.

In stark contrast to Trump’s tweet tantrums and bloviating lies, progressive leaders are churning out policy ideas that will make a positive difference in the lives of working Americans:
- Retirement security: 49 million Americans don’t have retirement savings. Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) wants to fix that by requiring employers to put $0.50 per hour into retirement accounts for their employees and giving people access to $2,500 per year. - Democracy reform: Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke put out a bold, comprehensive, progressive proposal to strengthen democracy that would expand voting access, limit the influence of special interests, and protect the census from partisan manipulation Beto’s plan is also a huge step forward in combating gerrymandering, by being clear that districts should reflect the preferences of voters statewide.
- Quality, affordable housing: Every American deserves safe, quality, affordable housing. This week, Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) rolled out a brand new policy to combat the housing affordability crisis.
- Foreign money in elections: Gov. Steve Bullock (D-MT) introduced a plan that would help to keep foreign money from being donated to candidates in U.S. elections. His take: “There can be no free passes for those deliberately seeking to undermine our democracy.”
- Electric school buses: Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) just introduced the Clean School Bus Act, which would build the first electric school bus fleet in the country. In addition to the climate implications, Harris explained why this is also a public health and environmental justice issue: “Millions of students are breathing polluted air on their way to school, and we know that disproportionately affects low-income students and students of color.”
