Remember the good old days, when Republicans publicly and proudly stood for sabotaging affordable health care and ripping coverage from people with pre-existing conditions?
Incumbent House Republicans are hoping voters will forget those days.
New ThinkProgress reporting shows that ahead of the midterm elections—21 days from now—“Republicans are positioning themselves as members of the party that will protect people with pre-existing conditions.”
Do they think we’ll forget their (still ongoing) crusade to sabotage American health care? Or that they repealed the individual mandate with a giant tax cut for themselves and their wealthy donors? Or, for that matter, their current lawsuit aimed directly at nullifying protections for pre-existing conditions?
According to ThinkProgress, yes. Republican candidates are pledging to protect people with pre-existing conditions and lying about their voting records—which tell the clear story of their assault on health care.
For example, take Rep. Dave Brat (R-VA). He is currently running an ad claiming that he has provided health care to those with pre-existing conditions. As ThinkProgress points out, “He neglects to mention in the ad that he voted twice to weaken ACA protections without replacing them with similar safeguards.”

IT’S COMING: CUTTING MEDICARE TO PAY FOR TAX CUTS.
Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell was quoted yesterday lamenting the state of the deficit—the deficit his party added trillions to with the #GOPTaxScam.
Per Bloomberg, Senator McConnell said the U.S. budget deficit is “disturbing.” He also said that Democrats and Republicans alike must address spending on entitlement programs (AKA Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare).
This isn’t a new talking point. Speaker Paul Ryan—while actively trying to ram through the $1.5 trillion tax scam—said that in order to “get this debt under control,” we need to reform entitlement programs. Watch the clip here.
