Rafael Medina is a director of media relations at American Progress. Previously, he served as the senior communications manager at the Immigration Hub. In this role, Medina supported the implementation of the Hub’s communications strategy and plans to support immigration-related federal and political advocacy. Prior to joining the Hub, he served as a senior communications manager at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, where he managed the communications strategy for the organization’s courts, justice reform, census, and immigrant rights teams.

Medina began his communications career at American Progress. He previously served as the senior media coordinator, where he oversaw the day-to-day communications operation for the Immigration Policy team and the Puerto Rico Relief and Economic Policy Initiative, as well as all ethnic media matters. He started as the ethnic media associate, where he managed content and media relations for the Ethnic Media team. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history and a minor in education studies from the University of California, Los Angeles. A Los Angeles native, Medina is passionate about competitive boxing and is a part-time coach in the Washington, D.C., area.
