After intense pressure following President Trump’s responses to the events in Charlottesville, Virginia, in mid-August, several of the president’s advisory councils have disbanded or seen their members resign.
But one of the most troubling councils remains: the Presidential Advisory Commission on Election Integrity — Trump’s voter suppression commission.
This commission’s entire premise is based on a myth perpetuated by Trump himself — voter fraud. The creation of this commission does nothing more than falsely justify voter suppression, which typically impacts people of color the most. For these reasons, as well as the President’s refusal to unequivocally condemn neo-Nazis and white supremacists, it’s time for the members to #QuitTheCommission.
Call the remaining members of the commission and demand they stand against Trump’s cavalier attitude toward bigotry.
What to say: Hi, this is [your name], and I’d like to speak to or leave a message for [member’s name] about Trump’s election commission. Donald Trump’s responses to the horrific attacks in Charlottesville and refusal to stand up for voting rights are unacceptable. Quit the commission and stand against hate.
