$106 million down the drain
With last week’s trip to his golf course in Ireland, the taxpayer tab for Trump’s golf outings jumped to $106 MILLION.
Trump spends his time ranting on Twitter, calling in to Fox and Friends, and playing golf on your dime. Meanwhile, more than 10 million American families saw a tax hike last year due to the Republican tax bill.
That $106 million could pay the annual salary of 1,800 public school teachers or cover $14 million Meals on Wheels lunches. Instead, Trump spent it on trips to help promote his private businesses. It’s also more than three times the cost of the entire Mueller investigation (which recovered nearly as much money as it cost).

This week’s big progressive ideas
As Trump forces taxpayers to pay to promote his businesses and threatens our national security, the nation’s progressive leaders are introducing innovative policy ideas to help American families:
- LGBTQ+ protections: Former Rep. Beto O’Rourke laid out a comprehensive plan to protect LGBTQ+ people, including a repeal of Trump’s transgender military ban, passage of the Equality Act, and relevant criminal justice reforms.
- Closing the racial wealth gap: Sen. Elizabeth Warren wants to create a Small Business Equality Fund to close the racial wealth gap and help entrepreneurs of color. As with most of Warren’s policy ideas, the proposal includes a funding mechanism for the plan.
- Eliminating lead poisoning: Former HUD Secretary Julián Castro wants Congress to allocate $5 billion per year for 10 years to reduce the risk of lead poisoning—a serious health threat in the U.S.—for vulnerable communities.
