ADVISORY: Henry Cisneros and Prominent Leaders to Discuss the State of Latinos and What the Obama Administration Must Do

Panelists to release new book: Latinos and the Nation’s Future, a landmark collection of essays by leading Latino figures

WASHINGTON, DC—On January 26, 2009, leading Latino figures will convene at the Center for American Progress in Washington, D.C. for a dialogue on the most pressing issues facing Latinos today and how the future of the nation is inextricably linked to the future of the Hispanic community.

The panelists will release a new book at the event entitled, Latinos and the Nation’s Future. In the book they argue that the Latino population is now so large, its trajectory of growth so rapid, and its contrast in age relative to that of the general population so stark that it will not be possible for the United States to advance without substantial—and so far unimagined—gains for the nation’s Latino community.

Please join CAP in hosting Henry Cisneros, the director of Arte Público Press at the University of Houston, Dr. Nicolás Kanellos, and others for this timely discussion and the launch of their new book, Latinos and the Nation’s Future. The book will be officially released January 31, 2009, but advance copies will be available for sale at the event.
