Washington, D.C. — Tom Jawetz, vice president of Immigration Policy at the Center for American Progress Action Fund, issued the following statement in response to President Donald Trump’s speech today:
The thing about President Trump’s major address today on the issue of immigration is that Republicans in Congress still plan on eliminating coverage for pre-existing conditions and cutting Social Security and Medicare to pay for huge tax breaks to corporations and the wealthy. Something sinister—and unlawful—is no doubt in the works, but today was just about demonizing immigrants to divide and distract the American public.
