November 27, 2012, 11:30am ET - 12:15pm ET
About This Event
Please join the Center for American Progress Action Fund for a policy speech by Senate Majority Whip Richard Durbin on the stakes in the upcoming fiscal showdown, the imperative to protect low-income Americans, and the need for a balanced approach to deficit reduction. As a member of the President’s National Commission on Fiscal Responsibility and Reform and lead Senate negotiator, Senator Durbin has championed a balanced approach to deficit-reduction that could set us on a course for long-term economic growth. The commission recognized that a key strategy for growing our economy was the principle that deficit-reduction should not harm the most vulnerable members of society or exacerbate poverty and inequality. Protection of tax credits for low and moderate income working families was a core component in the tax recommendations.
As we head into consequential lame duck negotiations on America’s fiscal future, with high stakes for low-income Americans and the future of the middle-class, Senator Durbin is uniquely positioned to make a credible and compelling case for a balanced approach to deficit-reduction that sets us on a course for long-term economic growth.
