Summary
American Progress is seeking a Systems Administrator to join its Technology team. The successful candidate will apply technical, analytical, and project management skills to help deliver the technologies that power American Progress. This role works with a diverse group of smart and passionate people to ensure Microsoft systems and cloud services are running efficiently, securely, and according to established best practices. This position requires a strong attention to detail, excellent project management skills, and the ability to work under tight deadlines.
Responsibilities:
Internal operations
- Serve as primary technical lead for Cloud (largely Azure) servers and Microsoft-related management infrastructure, including Microsoft 365 and Azure environments, as well as Google Workspace.
- Implement and monitor security best practices on endpoints according to established policies.
- Suggest areas for improvement of internal processes along with possible solutions based on emerging industry practices.
- Lead internal teams and task forces on a project level.
- Comply with and help enforce American Progress’ policies and procedures.
- Maintain documentation for systems and procedures under area of responsibility.
- Interact with internal clients at all levels to help resolve IT-related issues and provide answers in a manner that meets the department’s SLA.
- Ensure company assets under the responsibility of the administrator are properly documented and maintained.
- Manage vendors, including coordinating projects and assigning troubleshooting tickets to American Progress’ MSP to ensure SLAs are being met and work is being completed to American Progress’ standards.
- Resolve and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
- Communicate effectively with internal clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions.
- Continually seek opportunities to increase internal client satisfaction and deepen client relationships.
- Mentor Desktop Support specialists, improving their knowledge of advanced systems and infrastructure.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Required qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience; computer science or related degree is preferred.
- At least five years of relevant IT experience.
- Strong system administration experience at the command-line level, including PowerShell and GAM.
- Proven project management and organization skills.
- Knowledge of server and client products in an enterprise environment.
- Knowledge of maintaining and securing Windows on-prem and Azure server environments, including Active Directory, DNS, DHCP, and RADIUS.
- Extensive knowledge of the Microsoft 365 environment, including Azure Active Directory, Exchange hybrid environments, Intune, and Autopilot.
- Knowledge of the Google Workspace environment.
- Ability to automate common tasks.
- Ability to work independently.
- Experience managing servers in a zero-trust environment.
- Experience with Microsoft Defender XDR and Virtual Private Cloud environments.
- Knowledge of Apple macOS is a plus.
- Knowledge of ITIL concepts and best practices.
