Special Assistant, Health Policy

Summary

American Progress has an immediate opening for the position of Special Assistant for Health Policy. The Health Policy team is developing ideas to achieve universal health coverage and lower health care costs, including prescription drug prices. The team also defends the Affordable Care Act from repeal efforts and sabotage and the Medicaid program from cuts and other proposals that would negatively affect low-income beneficiaries.

The Special Assistant is an essential member of the team and is largely responsible for providing administrative support and research. The Special Assistant will organize meetings, manage event-related details, proofread and edit documents, and provide research support on a broad range of health policy issues. The right candidate will have an interest in health policy. Knowledge of and familiarity with the Affordable Care Act is preferred.

Responsibilities:

  • Serve as an assistant to the Vice President and Managing Director for Health Policy.
  • Provide administrative support to the Health Policy team, including scheduling appointments, planning events and meetings, and proofreading materials for publication.
  • Provide research support and otherwise support staff with drafting reports, articles, op-eds, and speeches on a wide range of health policy issues.
  • Draft articles, papers, charts, tables, and graphs.
  • Coordinate with the Editorial department to prepare upcoming products for publication.
  • Develop expertise in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (economics, public policy, public health, political science, or a related field is preferred) or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent research and quantitative skills.
  • Proven ability to multitask, prioritize assignments, and organize in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines, both independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Commitment to American Progress’ mission and goals.
