Hauwa Ahmed is a senior policy analyst at American Progress. Previously, she served as the chief of staff for legislative affairs at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy. In that role, she developed legislative strategy for key administration initiatives such as the American pandemic preparedness plan, Cancer Moonshot 2.0, and the establishment of the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health. Prior to joining the Biden administration, Ahmed served as a research associate on the Democracy and Government Reform team at American Progress. In that role, she provided policy support and prepared reports recommending policy solutions on issues such as voter access, election security, and public corruption.
Ahmed began her career at American Progress. She served as the special assistant to the president, managing the president’s daily schedule and logistics. She earned her bachelor’s degree in government and politics from the University of Maryland, College Park. In her spare time, Ahmed enjoys writing poetry and reading fiction.
