Jesse Lee is a Vice President for Communications at the Center for American Progress. Prior to joining American Progress, he was the founding communications director for Protect Democracy, a legal organization working to uphold democratic safeguards.

He worked in the Obama White House for all eight years, most recently as director of rapid response and special assistant to the president, where he was involved in virtually all major initiatives and challenges for the administration. He began as a senior member of the first-ever White House digital team, helping to oversee the transformation of the federal government’s digital engagement and lead major presidential online events.

Prior to that, he worked on rapid response and progressive outreach with the presidential transition team and the Democratic National Committee during the 2008 campaign. He spent two years in the Capitol with former Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), and began his career at the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
