Jacob Leibenluft is the executive vice president for Policy at American Progress. Previously, he worked from 2011 to 2012 and from 2013 to 2016 at the National Economic Council (NEC) at the White House, serving as deputy assistant to the president for economic policy and deputy director of the NEC. While at the White House, his portfolio included tax and budget issues, consumer protection and job training, as well as strategic planning for the economic team. During the 2016 general election campaign, Leibenluft served as senior policy adviser for Hillary for America, where he led former U.S. Secretary of State Clinton’s economic policy team. He also served as the economic policy director on former President Barack Obama’s 2012 presidential campaign.
Leibenluft began his work in the Obama administration at the U.S. Department of the Treasury, where he worked in 2009 and 2010 during the height of the financial crisis. Immediately before joining American Progress in 2018, he served as a senior adviser at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.
He is a graduate of Yale University and the recipient of a Truman Scholarship and a Henry Luce Scholarship.
