ICYMI: Biden’s bold plan to fix our broken immigration system

Forty U.S. states are home to at least 10,000 undocumented essential workers, working alongside us and our neighbors to keep the country safe as we navigate this pandemic. Under Biden’s immigration plan, they would soon have an earned path to citizenship so they don’t have to live in fear of deportation.

Undocumented workers kept our country running in the midst of an unprecedented crisis. Any plans to rebuild after that crisis must provide those same workers with a pathway to citizenship and ensure human rights for all.

IN THE NEWS

• A majority of likely voters in ten key Senate race states support a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, farmworkers, and more. According to the latest polling from Data for Progress, that support transcends party lines — including a majority of Independents and one-third or more of Republicans, depending on which state you’re polling. Also found in this latest poll? Biden’s approval numbers on his pandemic response and the economy are holding steady.
• Biden visits Michigan; says it’s time for the U.S. to lead on electric vehicles. The American Jobs Plan would provide the investment needed to make that a reality. Not only would this be a welcome change when it comes to the climate crisis, but it would also boost jobs by incentivizing EV battery production facilities.
• Get ready for child tax credit payments to start hitting your account in July. In “promises made, promises kept” news, parents across the country will see money in their pockets starting July 15 — and payments will continue on a twice-monthly basis through December. Here’s to getting more American families back on their feet.
• SCOTUS moves to take up a Mississippi abortion ban case — and with it, Roe v. Wade hangs in the balance. If the Supreme Court sustains the Mississippi ban, it would not only have major legislative impact, but it would send a clear and dangerous message to politicians across the country that “people can’t be trusted to make their own personal health care decisions.”
• Incredible progress in the fight against this pandemic was borne out in the numbers this week. Texas hit the milestone of zero COVID deaths for the first time since March 2020, and several other states reported zero deaths from the virus as well, including Arizona, Minnesota, and Massachusetts. Building back better means creating a world safe from COVID-19 — and the data tells us we’re on our way to making that dream a reality.
