Yvette Cabrera is an investigative reporter for ThinkProgress. Prior to joining ThinkProgress, she covered criminal justice and immigration issues in Southern California. She focused on the policing and prosecution of California youth as a 2016 investigative reporting fellow for Project Word’s Freelance Investigative Reporters and Editors, or FIRE, and on environmental justice issues as a community health reporting fellow for the International Center for Journalists. Her work has appeared in The Guardian and the Voice of OC, an investigative news agency in Santa Ana, California. Cabrera has also worked as an investigative producer for KCBS in Los Angeles; a news columnist for The Orange County Register; a reporter at the Los Angeles Times; and a correspondent for KCET-TV’s SoCal Connected, an investigative news magazine. The daughter of Mexican immigrants, Cabrera was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California, and graduated from Occidental College in Los Angeles, where she majored in history with an emphasis on Latin American studies.
