Sara Garcia is the senior research and advocacy manager for Postsecondary Education at American Progress. In her past work, Garcia served as a higher education research analyst for The Education Trust with a focus on access, affordability, and success for low-income and underrepresented students. Additionally, Garcia worked as the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute higher education fellow for Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) on the U.S. Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, where she focused on policy issues surrounding college affordability and student debt. Prior to her work in Washington, D.C., Garcia was a graduate research assistant for the Office of Community College Research and Leadership at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, where she researched state and institutional policies regarding reverse credit transfer.

Garcia is originally from Texas and received her master’s degree in experimental psychology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Boston University.
