Alexandra Schmitt is a policy analyst for human rights, democracy, and development on the National Security and International Policy team at American Progress. Prior to joining American Progress, she served as a research assistant at Harvard University’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs and the Center for Public Leadership, where she helped to develop courses on multiparty negotiation analysis and public policy design and implementation. She was previously the U.S. foreign policy advocacy coordinator at Human Rights Watch and has also worked at Human Rights First and the United Nations Foundation. She earned a Master of Public Policy from the Harvard Kennedy School and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Grinnell College in Iowa.
