Becca Damante is a senior policy analyst with the Women’s Initiative at American Progress, where her work focuses on reproductive rights, the Equal Rights Amendment, and judicial nominations. Before joining American Progress, Damante was a senior legislative assistant to Rep. Carolyn B. Maloney (D-NY). In that role, she handled policy areas including women’s issues, health, LGBTQI+ rights, education, the environment, transportation, and the arts.
Prior to that role, Damante was a senior research associate at the Constitutional Accountability Center, where her work on various judiciary issues was quoted or cited in The New York Times, USA Today, Daily Kos, and CNN and by former Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV), Rep. Katie Porter (D-CA), and Mary Trump. She has also published articles in Slate and Just Security. Previously, Damante worked as an opposition researcher at Media Matters for America, where she specialized in anti-choice and anti-LGBTQI+ disinformation and wrote an opposition research book for journalists on the anti-LGBTQI+ hate group Alliance Defending Freedom. Damante graduated magna cum laude from Smith College with a Bachelor of Arts in the study of women and gender and an archives concentration.
